Handbells Enrich our Worship Experience

Whether ringing out in grand cathedrals or our own chapel sanctuary, handbells continue to inspire awe, joy and reverence in Christian worship.

Our music ministry has been broadened and enriched by the addition of handbells. We are grateful for our volunteer musicians and our Music Director, Doug Jewett, to include these instruments in our worship program.

Handbells have played a meaningful role in Christian worship for centuries, offering both melodic beauty and spiritual symbolism. Rooted in the tradition of church bells that summoned communities to prayer, handbells evolved as smaller, portable instruments that could be used within the sanctuary.

Playing handbells requires coordination and teamwork, reflecting the unity and fellowship found within Christian communities. Participants come together on Thursdays to rehearse, sharing their talents in service to the congregation. For many, preparing and playing handbell music is not only an act of creativity but also a form of devotion and ministry.

Who can ring Handbells?

Anyone who can count to four.

Ringing handbells provides a sense of musical accomplishment for those who play no other instrument and who do not sing in a choir. They are not difficult to play. Though sophisticated ringing exists, ringing is uncomplicated once you get the feel of the bells.
